International travel to Canada through British Columbia (B.C.) remains below pre-pandemic levels, despite overall increases in traveler volumes.
In the first nine months of 2024, 4.3 million international visitors entered Canada via B.C., up 7.4% from 2023 but down 19.3% from 2019, according to Destination BC. Key markets like China, Japan, and South Korea saw significant drops. However, Air Canada’s plans to expand flights between Vancouver and China offer hope for recovery.
Meanwhile, Statistics Canada data revealed Canadians took 79.2 million trips in Q2 2024, spending $17.9 billion, a 30.5% rise from 2019. International visitors spent $7.4 billion in the same period.

To enhance efficiency, Air Canada introduced facial-recognition boarding at Vancouver International Airport, streamlining domestic travel with optional biometric verification through its app.
