The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has received 13 Nigerians rescued from a human trafficking network in Ghana.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for facilitating the victims’ safe return to Nigeria.
Through a statement signed by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa also expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for consistently supporting rescue operations with transportation and other assistance.
“We appreciate the swift intervention of our High Commission in Ghana and all partners who worked tirelessly to ensure these Nigerians were brought home safely.”
“The First Lady has continued to demonstrate compassion and commitment by supporting evacuation and rescue efforts. Her assistance has been invaluable,” she added.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commenced profiling the returnees as part of the standard reintegration process.

NiDCOM also provided logistical support to ensure their safe movement to their respective states.
Victims
The rescued group includes eleven adults and two infants aged four weeks and 16 months.
They were received on behalf of the NiDCOM Chairman by the Head of Operations in Lagos, Mr. Dele Ogunkanbi.
Some of the women and their children are currently undergoing medical treatment and receiving mental health support after being diagnosed with serious health conditions.
Dabiri-Erewa used the occasion to caution Nigerians, especially young people, against falling victim to fraudulent overseas job offers and unsafe travel arrangements.
“Irregular migration exposes our citizens to grave dangers, including trafficking and exploitation. We urge young Nigerians to verify opportunities properly and avoid shortcuts that may end in tragedy,” she warned.
