Nigeria’s Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, is driving a tech-driven, culturally-rich, and community-focused tourism revolution in Nigeria.

At the 121 Executive Council Meeting of the UN Tourism in Barcelona, Spain, Ade-John actively highlighted her focus on leveraging technology to enhance Nigeria’s tourism offerings. “As a technology expert, I am utilizing my expertise to develop Nigeria’s tourism sector from a technology perspective,” she stated.

Ade-John is actively promoting community-based and business tourism, emphasizing, “We are empowering local industries to thrive through community-based tourism.” She is spearheading significant infrastructure projects to bolster Nigeria’s tourism appeal, including a coastal road from Lagos to Calabar and resorts along the coast.

Ade-John is showcasing Nigeria’s vibrant cultural and creative sector, including music, Nollywood, fashion, and gastronomy, asserting, “We are harnessing our massive creative sector to attract visitors and host events.”

Regarding Emirates’ return to Nigeria, Ade-John is proactively addressing the opportunities and challenges, stating, “While I have mixed feelings, we are focused on welcoming visitors to enjoy our offerings.”

Ade-John is determined to put Nigeria on the global tourism map, actively participating in international travel markets and showcasing Nigeria’s tourism potential. “We are taking our tourism offerings to the World Travel Market and beyond, with the goal of hosting an African tourism market in the future.”

Ade-John is also encouraging Nigerians to explore their own country, emphasizing, “We are promoting leisure tourism in Nigeria, encouraging Nigerians to discover their own country’s wonders.”
