The Wuraolami Foundation, a UK-based charity, unprecedentedly suspends scholarships awarded to Nigerian beneficiaries.
This action has been taken following reports of widespread fraud within its scholarship program.
The foundation’s Convener, Ms. Ifeoyinla Jacobs, revealed that despite substantial payments to the charity, beneficiaries in Nigeria have allegedly not received their scholarship funds.
In response to these allegations, the organization has initiated legal action by filing a formal petition with the Nigeria Police Force.
Ms. Jacobs emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that false statements could irreparably harm the foundation’s reputation.
The foundation has called for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice prevails under the law.
Founded in 2014, the Wuraolami Foundation has been dedicated to supporting vulnerable members of society, including the poor, elderly, disabled, orphans, and students.
The foundation clarified that all recipients who met the charity’s requirements received their scholarship funds, which were promptly disbursed to their respective educational or vocational institutions.
The foundation remains committed to its mission of assisting marginalized communities and expressed confidence in the legal and regulatory framework of Lagos State to address the matter impartially and uphold the rule of law.
This development underscores the challenges faced by charitable organizations in ensuring transparency and accountability in aid distribution, especially across international borders.
