Millions of Lagos commuters face a major disruption on Monday, March 16, 2026, as the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) calls a full Lagos shutdown of Uber, Bolt, and all app-based ride-hailing platforms.
The AUATON Lagos shutdown Uber Bolt action runs from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
It will cover the full morning and evening rush hours.
Consequently, millions of Lagos residents who depend on ride-hailing apps daily must make alternative travel arrangements before Monday morning.
The shutdown will extend to neighbouring Ogun State.

In a statement signed by Comrade Yusuf Bamidele, AUATON Lagos State Secretary, the action became necessary for some reasons.
“First, trip fares have dropped to unsustainable levels that no longer support drivers’ livelihoods. Second, rising fuel prices and surging operational costs are squeezing driver margins beyond breaking point. Third, worsening safety and security challenges on Lagos roads are putting drivers at daily risk.”
Action
According to Comrade Bamidele, all Lagos Uber, Bolt, and app-based ride-hailing drivers must log out of all platforms from 5:00 AM on Monday.
Furthermore, drivers were directed to refrain from accepting or completing any trips throughout the AUATON Lagos shutdown Uber Bolt period. Additionally, all participants must encourage fellow drivers, partners, and fleet owners to join in solidarity. Moreover, AUATON has firmly instructed every driver to maintain peace, discipline, and professionalism throughout the exercise.
Comrade Bamidele enjoined all members to close ranks and make the planned action a success.
“Together, we can amplify our voices and push for fairer policies, improved working conditions, and a more sustainable future for app-based transportation in Nigeria.”
The union warned that the success of the AUATON Lagos shutdown Uber Bolt action depended entirely on the unity of every driver across Lagos and Ogun states.
AUATON is a recognised affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has given full institutional support.
