The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied a report of a fire incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Online reports claimed a fire incident occurred due to an electrical fault causing a complete loss of power in the old terminal. The report claimed that travellers and workers were asked to evacuate due to thick smoke billowing from a section of the facility.

FAAN denied the incident, stating it was only a minor wire spark and not a fire-related one. The authority’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Obiageli Orah, stated that the incident was swiftly resolved to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.

The power supply to the affected section of the airport was immediately switched off, and the engineering department promptly mobilized to identify the source of the spark.
