Delta Airlines has stranded over 250 passengers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos due to a mechanical failure in their aircraft.
The passengers were on their way to Atlanta, Georgia, US, but were disembarked after the flight. The failure to airlift the passengers as scheduled led to protests among the passengers.
However, a media consultant for Delta in Nigeria debunked the claim. The passengers were onboard the aircraft for about four hours before being told to disembark. One passenger reported being inside the aircraft for four hours and not knowing what was happening.
Delta’s Media Consultant Tope Ogbeni-Awe confirmed that the plane was scheduled to airlift the passengers out of the country on Friday, but had to be rescheduled due to the mechanical fault and crew time out.
All affected passengers will be lodged in a hotel in strict adherence to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards until they are airlifted on Saturday.
