The UK has announced its nomination of Professor Dapo Akande for election as a judge to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2026.

Professor Akande, a British-Nigerian expert in public international law, will bring extensive legal experience to the Hague-based court.

His nomination was confirmed by His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Joanna Roper, who emphasized Akande’s commitment to international justice and human rights.

Akande, a professor at the University of Oxford, has been recognized for his significant contributions to international law, including his election to the United Nations International Law Commission. 

His nomination by five countries highlights his broad global appeal and expertise in the field.
