The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) in Niger State have increased transport fares due to a sharp rise in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) prices and vehicle parts costs.
Fares from Minna to Abuja have risen from N6,000 to N7,000, while Minna to Kaduna fares jumped from N6,500 to N8,000. Local routes like Minna to Zuba and Diko have also seen fare increases.
NURTW Chairman Ibrahim Musa stated the fare hikes are necessary to offset rising operational costs. TOAN Chairman Abubakar Ndanusa echoed similar concerns, with tricycle fares increasing by N50-N100 per trip.
