South Africa has introduced an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system to simplify entry for international visitors.
Announced by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber, the ETA will replace traditional paper visas, offering a secure and streamlined process.
Travelers will submit applications online, with biometric data required for added security. Approved ETAs will be linked to passports via digital codes, enabling paperless entry.
The system aims to enhance efficiency by processing most applications instantly, with manual review only for anomalies.
It will also provide real-time monitoring for overstays. Visa-exempt travelers from countries like the U.S. and U.K. will continue to enjoy short-term stays without a visa.

This initiative follows South Africa’s earlier e-Visa system, introduced in 2019, further modernizing the nation’s immigration services.
