New US immigration policy changes now limit F-1 visa holders to study abroad programs shorter than five months to maintain their student status.
Previously, students could study abroad indefinitely if enrolled at a US institution. Effective from August 27, these changes were highlighted by Minerva University, which offers extended global rotation programs.
Mike Magee, president of Minerva University, expressed concern, noting that many US campuses offer longer study abroad options, now inaccessible to international students on F-1 visas.
Magee emphasized that the government may not have intended to harm students and called for a grace period for those affected.

Minerva has begun flying 150 students back from Europe to comply with the new rules. The policy is expected to impact both current students and future global education partnerships in the US.
