Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to upgrade the Ibadan Airport to international standards within 18 months, ensuring Hajj pilgrims can depart from the airport.
At the Hijrah 1446 luncheon, Governor Makinde announced plans to establish a committee to oversee the upgrade, stating, “I will give them 18 months to complete everything, because we have the money to make it happen.”
He expressed his gratitude to the people of Oyo State for their support, saying, “Please, support this government. I came to you to beg to apply, and you made up your mind to give me the opportunity to serve the state.”
The governor emphasized the importance of unity and peace, saying, “Let’s strive for a new Oyo State where love, unity, and peace will reign supreme.” He commended the Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing) for the smooth 2024 Hajj operations and acknowledged the support of the Muslim community.
Guest lecturer, Sheik Najimudeen Alkubroh, praised Governor Makinde’s leadership style, saying, “He has proven to be the kind of worthy leader that Nigeria needs.” The event was attended by top government officials, Islamic scholars, and community leaders.
Governor Makinde’s commitment to upgrading the airport has brought hope to the people of Oyo State, promising a new era of development and progress. The upgrade will not only facilitate Hajj pilgrimages but also boost economic growth and tourism in the region.
