Canada’s study permit system faces criticism after the arrest of Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani student, on terrorism-related charges.
Khan, 20, had entered Canada on a study visa in May 2023 and was arrested in Quebec for allegedly planning attacks in New York City.
This incident has heightened anti-immigration sentiment, especially against international students.
In response, the Naujawan Support Network, led by Bikramjit Singh, has organized an indefinite protest in Brampton, demanding extended work permits and clearer pathways to permanent residency for international students.
