Iceland’s geothermal spa, Blue Lagoon has closed until November 30 due to increased chances of a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

The closure was announced on November 9 and initially lasted until November 16.

 The Icelandic Meteorological Office reported a seismic swarm of over 4,000 earthquakes in October, centered around Grindavík.

The U.S. Embassy in Reykjavík issued a volcano alert, raising the danger level from “alert” to “emergency.” Keflavík Airport has no impacts, and the Aviation Color Code in Iceland has been elevated to orange, indicating heightened unrest and increased likelihood of eruption.

 The closure has caused disruptions to the lagoon, retreat hotel, spa, Silica hotel, and two on-site restaurants.
