A new standard has been set in the hospitality sector. Recently, Wellness in Travel & Tourism (WITT), a pioneering organization with over 125 years of combined expertise, launched the industry’s first wellness certification for hotels and resorts.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to transform the sector by providing rigorous criteria that sets properties apart in a competitive market. According to Robin Ruiz, WITT’s CEO and Founder, “The WITT Certified seal provides hotels and resorts with a significant advantage in attracting travelers by offering objective and rigorous audits of their wellness amenities and services.”

Ruiz elaborated, “Think of us as the Michelin Guide for Wellness Travel. Our forthcoming consumer-facing website will provide travelers the ability to explore WITT Certified hotels, articles, and destination spotlights, empowering them to travel confidently knowing that their expectations and preferences will be met.”

The WITT certification is based on a proprietary 100-point criteria, focusing on five core pillars:

  • Healthy Eating
  • Holistic Healing
  • Nature
  • Movement
  • Local Impact

Notably, the wellness travel market is projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2025. With WITT’s certification, properties can differentiate themselves and potentially increase revenue. In fact, wellness-designated hotels report a 20% higher Average Daily Rate (ADR) than non-wellness hotels.

Furthermore, WITT offers comprehensive consulting services, expert guidance, and targeted marketing support to enhance properties’ wellness offerings and drive occupancy. This is particularly significant, given that wellness travelers spend 175% more than traditional travelers.

To date, WITT has certified over 100 early adopter properties and plans for exponential growth, solidifying its position as the global benchmark for wellness travel.
