Uganda Airlines has made its inaugural flight to Abuja, Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion plans. The maiden flight, UR900, departed Entebbe International Airport at 4:30 pm and arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 6:22 pm Nigerian time.
According to Uganda’s State Minister for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, “Today, I come here on behalf of the Republic of Uganda to fulfill a debt we took last year… We committed that within one year, we would launch the Abuja route.” The minister expressed gratitude to the Nigerian people for their warm reception.
The direct flights will reduce travel time by half and promote economic development between Uganda and Nigeria. Uganda’s Ambassador tyo Nigeria, Nelson Ocheger, noted, “Additionally, it will facilitate the movement of cargo between Uganda and Nigeria. As the volume of trade increases, our people will be the beneficiaries.”
