Uyo is making aviation history.
Victor Attah Airport launches its first international flights on April 1, 2026, and the federal government has officially approved every step of the way.
Governor Umo Eno confirmed the date. Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation confirmed the readiness. Southern Nigeria is getting its first direct international gateway and it arrives in days.

Victor Attah Airport did not stumble into international status.
The Akwa Ibom State Government worked for it.
The Federal Government officially upgraded Victor Attah Airport to full international status, positioning Uyo as a new gateway connecting Akwa Ibom directly to destinations across the globe.
Following a recent facility inspection, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation confirmed that operational readiness assessments are well advanced and that Akwa Ibom is progressing ahead of schedule.
That is not standard language. It is a formal endorsement.
Readiness
No entity stands to gain more from this upgrade than Ibom Air the state-owned carrier headquartered in Uyo.
Ibom Air has steadily expanded its domestic network since launching operations and now has the potential to explore international routes from its home base.
Launching international flights requires more than a runway. It requires full agency integration and that work is done. Victor Attah Airport international flights launch April 1, 2026. Southern Nigeria no longer routes everything through Lagos.
Akwa Ibom built its own door. On April 1, it opens to the world.
