Gateway International Airport, Iperu, Ogun State, is set to receive its first cargo flight from Europe.
Ogun State Governor, Governor Dapo Abiodun, announced this during an on-the-spot assessment of the Industrial Platform at the Remo Free Trade Zone, located along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
He was unambiguous about what the milestone represents.
“Cargo operations at the Gateway International Airport will commence within the next 30 to 45 days, with the first cargo aircraft from Europe expected to land at the facility,” the Governor declared.
“This milestone reflects the steady progress we have made in positioning Ogun State as a prime destination for agro-processing, logistics, and export-driven industrial growth.”

At the heart of the announcement is a broader vision already becoming visible on the ground.
The Special Agro-Processing Zone between Iperu and Ilishan has graduated from concept to construction at remarkable speed.
The free trade zone will operate with dedicated power supply, structured waste management systems, an independent administrative framework, and a comprehensive security architecture to guarantee seamless business operations.
The governor also revealed that the zone is expected to host what he described as the world’s largest cotton garment processing factory, a development expected to significantly boost employment generation and industrial output across the state.
