Sunbird Hotels Malawi is making its biggest MICE investment with the new Livingstonia International Conference Centre.
The Sunbird Hotels Malawi MICE centre sits on the shores of Lake Malawi in Salima just 100 kilometres from Lilongwe.
The K11 billion facility positions Malawi as a serious contender in Africa’s fast-growing business events market.
Sunbird Hotels Malawi Head of Sales, Marketing and Distribution Temwa Kanjadza said:
“The addition of the Livingstonia International Conference Centre is a significant milestone as we continue to elevate the MICE experience for domestic, regional and international delegates on the shores of Lake Malawi.”
Additionally, Sunbird Hotels Malawi showcased the new MICE facility at Meetings Africa 2026 in Johannesburg.

Moreover, the Salima location’s proximity to Lilongwe makes it an attractive draw for corporate bleisure travellers seeking Sunbird Hotels Malawi MICE packages.
Facilities
The Sunbird Hotels Malawi MICE centre features a 1,000-seat main conference arena with advanced audiovisual technology.
Additionally, six breakaway rooms accommodate up to 1,500 delegates across the entire facility.
Furthermore, a 300-seat restaurant serves all Sunbird Hotels Malawi MICE events and conferences.
Sunbird Hotels Malawi is also expanding accommodation at the Salima complex to support rising MICE demand.
An additional 60 rooms are under construction at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach, bringing total capacity to 156 rooms by April 2026.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to expand Sunbird Waterfront from 46 to 100 rooms.
Africa’s Business Events Boom
Sunbird Hotels CEO Samuel Mwale said:

Africa’s hotel development pipeline reached a record 123,846 rooms across 675 hotels in 2026.
This representing 18.6% year-on-year growth.
