Abiola Tijani, a 30-year-old British-Nigerian man, has been jailed for raping a stranger in Sheffield.

Tijani was sentenced to 12 years and three months, with eight years and three months being custodial and four years on a license. 

The court heard Tijani follow a victim as she was walking home and repeatedly try to engage in conversation. He grabbed and pushed her against railings before raping her. He was also given a lifetime restraining order. 

Police Constable Sarah Frith commended the victim’s bravery and the strength of character she showed in supporting the prosecution. Tijani pleaded guilty in September and was remanded.
