Over 100 Nigerian nurses in the UK are seeking justice after the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) accused them of cheating on their competency exams.
The controversy began when NMC’s CBT provider, Pearson VUE, flagged unusually fast test completion times from Yunnik Technologies Test Centre in Ibadan, Nigeria.
Consequently, the NMC banned affected nurses from practicing, forcing many into lower-paying care roles.
The nurses assert they completed exams quickly due to Nigeria’s frequent power outages, retaking tests in the UK with similar times. Despite no technical issues found by Pearson VUE, the NMC believes proxy testers may have been involved.
Now, the nurses await a response from UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting after petitioning against collective punishment, claiming it has devastated their careers and lives.
