The Nigerian federal government is set to introduce Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs) to enhance the air travel experience, reduce delays, and boost security for travelers.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed this during a training session on Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record (API/PNR) at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja.
The initiative, part of a broader digital upgrade, includes biometric gates at airports, enabling faster clearance in just 14 seconds.Â
By the first quarter, 40 e-verification gates will be installed across airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu, and Port-Harcourt.Â

This aligns with Africa’s growing shift towards biometric-based, passport-free travel, enhancing efficiency while raising data privacy concerns.
