The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in passport fees for citizens residing within the country, starting from September 1st, 2024.
This adjustment aims to enhance the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, aligning it with international standards as a credible identification document for Nigerian citizens.
According to the announcement made by DCI KT Udo, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the price hike will affect both the 32-page and 64-page passport booklets.Â
The cost of the 32-page passport, valid for five years, will rise from N35,000 to N50,000. Meanwhile, the 64-page passport, which offers a ten-year validity, will increase from N70,000 to N100,000.
The NIS has acknowledged that the fee increase may cause inconvenience to travelers but emphasized the necessity of the adjustment.Â
The agency cited rising costs in passport production and the need to maintain high security and quality standards as key reasons for the new pricing structure.
Notably, this fee revision only applies to Nigerians residing within the country. Passport fees for citizens living abroad will remain unchanged.
Travelers planning to apply for or renew their passports are advised to take note of the new fees and plan accordingly.
