India has mounted a major aviation rescue operation, deploying 58 flights to the Gulf today as thousands of passengers remain stranded across the Middle East following the most severe regional airspace crisis in years.
The Operation
Indian airlines are operating 58 flights between India and the Gulf region today to facilitate the movement of stranded passengers amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
According to India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, the flights include 30 services by IndiGo and 23 by Air India and Air India Express. Destinations include New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram, with departures from Dubai and Fujairah.
The Scale of Disruption
So far, 1,221 flights by Indian carriers and 388 by foreign airlines have been cancelled since the crisis began. Approximately 104 international flights were cancelled by Indian carriers on March 3 alone.
Government Response
The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed it is closely monitoring airfares to prevent undue price surges, and has advised all airlines to maintain transparent communication with passengers on refunds, rescheduling, and assistance.
Warning to Travellers
Authorities urged travellers not to proceed to Dubai International Airport unless contacted directly by their airline with a confirmed departure time.
