Let’s talk about hotels near Nairobi airport with free shuttle.
Say your flight lands at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11:40 pm. Immigration takes an hour, if the hotel you booked is 15 km away in the city, when will you sleep? How will you get there safely?
If you can book a good hotel beside the airport, you have removed that gamble. Some of the hotels we found near the airport will even give you the option of taxi or shuttle for free. Four of the five hotels are 3 to 10 minutes from the terminals. Follow along in this guide as we help you find the easiest hotels around the airport in Kenya.
Why Choose Hotels Near Nairobi Airport with Free Shuttle?
The airport is in the south-east of the city centre, about 15 km by road. On an empty road that is 20 minutes. However, in rush hour, you are looking at 60 to 90 minutes on the road. So, the government built the tolled Nairobi Expressway. This simply means that you can either drive on the normal road and spend 90 mins or use the toll gate and pay for a faster drive, under 20 minutes. If you’re driving a saloon car, you’ll pay KES410 to Westlands or KES330 into the CBD. If you do not pay, you stay on the ordinary roads and sit in the traffic. So the toll is basically the price of skipping the traffic jam; you pay money to buy time. The toll also helps control how many cars use the expressway, so it can stay fast.
If your hotel is near the airport, you don’t need all these maths. In fact, some hotels near Nairobi airport are with free shuttle. You collect your bag, walk to a pickup point, and you are indoors within 30 minutes of touchdown. That matters if you depart before 8:00 am, if you land after dark, or if a safari vehicle is coming at dawn.
However, you must also understand that the fact that the hotel is near does not always mean you will get there quickly. The hotels still cross guarded service roads, and since you are not the only one using the shuttle, you may have to wait for a while.

Each figure is a starting room price for two, from listings on 1 October 2026, and taxes are not always inside it. All five hotels can be booked online, either on their own websites or through the mainstream sites. You can still try comparing them on Agoda to see which rate carries breakfast.
Below KES 12,000 the honest option is 67 Airport Hotel in Syokimau, with a free 24-hour shuttle and breakfast from US$75 to US$114, but no lift. Other beds around the airport start lower.
What to Know About JKIA Free Shuttle Services
Send your flight number, terminal and bag claim time when you book, then send them again if the flight is delayed. Ask whether the shuttle runs 24 hours or stops overnight, because that answer decides which hotel you choose.
At arrivals, stay in the terminal until the desk or the driver tells you where to walk. Crowne Plaza has a booth in Terminal 1A, and the others call or WhatsApp you to a lane. Use the number on your confirmation, not one from a search result.
Most of these shuttles are shared at hotels near Nairobi airport with free shuttle. One traveller on the Kenya TripAdvisor forum found the morning run full of crew, so book the return at check-in with a stated time. If no shuttle appears, ask the desk for its car and price, then compare that with an app taxi. Never take a ride offered to you inside the hall. Pre-book a car when a missed connection lands you an unplanned night.
Have a Long Layover? Nairobi in Half a Day
Two sights are close enough to reach from the airport. Nairobi National Park is 14 km away, open 6:00 to 18:00, and rhino and lion move past a skyline there. Gate fees are KES 1,000 for East African citizens, KES 1,350 for residents and US$40 or US$80 for other visitors. A small vehicle adds KES 600. The gates are cashless, so pay on KWS Pay or eCitizen, as we cover in Kenya’s cashless tourism payments.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant nursery opens to visitors for one hour only, 11:00 to noon, closed 25 December. Book on the trust’s own site for a US$20 adult donation, and expect park entry on top, because the nursery sits inside the park.
Tours take the driving off you. A half-day game drive on Viator runs five hours with airport or hotel pickup from about US$42 to US$65. Confirm the drop-off point and the return time before you pay.
You need entry clearance to reach either sight. Transit inside the terminal needs no eTA, while leaving the airport does. Many African passports are exempt, Nigeria among them, and others pay US$30 at etakenya.go.ke up to 72 hours ahead. See how Nairobi ranks as a layover hub.
Now the maths. A four-hour tour does not fit a four-hour layover. Immigration and bags can take 90 minutes, the park gate is 30 to 60 minutes from JKIA, and you must be back two hours before an international departure. A half day out needs a day on the ground, not a short connection.
Tips for Booking a Safe Hotel Near JKIA
- Book on the hotel site or a large platform, and save the confirmation with the shuttle number when reserving hotels near Nairobi airport with free shuttle.
- Read reviews from the last three months, and search them for shuttle, noise and check-in at 2 am.
- Confirm where the hotel sits. A Mombasa Road address 5 km away can still mean 40 minutes at peak.
- Check the cancellation deadline and whether the desk is staffed at your arrival hour, then ask what the rate covers.
- Expect a card hold for incidentals, which our guide to hotel deposits explains.
- Treat a call from the front desk asking for card details as a scam until you ring the published number back, a trick we cover in hotel scam calls.
Which Nairobi Airport Hotel Should You Book?
For a late arrival and an early departure, the hotels inside the airport fence are the safest plan. Four Points costs the least in lost sleep. Crowne Plaza is the day room pick, Argyle Grand or Hilton Garden Inn give more room at less money, Eka suits a paid car, and 67 suits the tight budget. Send your flight details a day early, then check what these hotels cost for your trip and see the guest photos on TripAdvisor. Saily and Airalo sell Kenya data plans you install before flying, and our eSIM guide compares them.
