American airline pilot Lawrence Russell was caught over the alcohol limit before he was due to fly a Boeing 767 from Edinburgh to New York.
Russell was found with two bottles of Jägermeister in his luggage, one half full. He was arrested after a failed breath test and remanded in custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Russell pleaded guilty to reporting for duty while being impaired through drink or drugs. The court heard the alcohol level in his blood sample was “not less than 49mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood”, with the legal limit of 20mg.
Russell, from Georgia, was warned and charged, and his lawyer provided a medical report of his treatment. Sheriff Alison Stirling deferred sentence to later this month for report preparation.
