Canada will no longer automatically issue 10-year multiple-entry visas to tourists, according to new Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) guidelines.
This marks a shift from the previous policy, where eligible visitors were generally granted long-term visas by default.
Now, immigration officers will assess applications individually, determining the type and duration of visas on a case-by-case basis.
This adjustment allows officers to issue either single-entry or shorter-term multiple-entry visas based on applicants’ specific situations.
The IRCC states that this policy change aligns with broader efforts to balance immigration with Canada’s infrastructure capacity amid housing shortages and rising living costs.

While application fees remain CAD 100, frequent travelers may face higher costs over time due to potentially shorter visas.
