Angola has officially claimed the title of Africa’s fastest-growing tourist destination and the world took notice at ITB Berlin 2026.
The Numbers That Made History
Angola’s tourism sector generated $667 million in revenues in 2025, with a 30% increase in international arrivals, making Angola the fastest-growing tourist destination in Africa and the fourth fastest-growing worldwide, according to Minister of State for Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano, speaking at the 60th edition of ITB Berlin.
The hotel industry is rapidly expanding, growing from 1,260 units in 2021 to 1,428 in 2024, with an occupancy rate exceeding 72%.
Three Awards in One Day
The second day of ITB Berlin 2026 was marked by Angola winning three prestigious awards: Best Destination and Diverse Landscapes of the Year, Best Promotional Video of a Tourist Destination, and Minister of Tourism of the Year: Resurrection.

Angola’s cultural performances: kizomba, semba, and kuduro, drew such strong crowds that other exhibitors abandoned their stands to experience the Angolan showcase.
The Vision Beyond Oil
Tourism Minister Márcio Daniel was direct about Angola’s strategic pivot:
“We are betting now on green oil — tourism.”
This signals a decisive shift away from oil dependency toward a diversified, experience-led economy.
Angola’s Minister of State José de Lima Massano reiterated that Africa has the highest tourism growth rates of any continent, and that Angola is open, prepared, and committed to building a sustainable, competitive, and globally connected tourism sector.
Angola is no longer a hidden gem. It is Africa’s rising star.
