The 1,180-metre landing strip receives daily scheduled flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. AirKenya Express and Mombasa Air Safari operate regular charter services on the route.
Additionally, Kenya recorded 43 flood-related deaths nationwide by March 9, with Nairobi County accounting for 28 of those fatalities.

KWS directed all airlines and charter pilots to divert flights to Tawi Airstrip — the designated alternative landing point while the Amboseli National Park airstrip remains closed.
Tawi Airstrip sits approximately five kilometres from Kimana Gate at the southeastern edge of the park.
