The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking in Nigeria with several major seizures reported recently.
At Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, NDLEA officials intercepted 36 parcels of high-potency cannabis hidden in baby food tins. Weighing a total of 18.5 kilograms, these drugs were ingeniously concealed in six cartons, each containing six tins.
 The smuggling method involved tampering with the bottoms of the cans, but NDLEA’s thorough inspection led to the arrest of both the freight agent responsible and the sender in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In another significant operation, NDLEA agents intercepted five shipments containing opioids and other psychoactive substances, including promethazine, pentazocine, diazepam, tramadol, and morphine.
 These substances were concealed within cloths and other items bound for the United States and the United Kingdom. Notably, one shipment with 820 grams of promethazine and pentazocine injections was destined for the US, while four additional parcels totaling over two kilograms of various opioids were intended for the UK.
Further enforcement efforts at Lagos’ Tincan port led to the recovery of 77 packages of Canadian Loud, a synthetic cannabis, hidden in the compartments of four imported vehicles.Â
This seizure amounted to 38.5 kilograms. Additional drug busts included 1,740 bottles of codeine syrup and 1,070 tablets of Molly found in Lagos, as well as large quantities of cannabis recovered in Ondo and Edo states.

These operations underscore the NDLEA’s dedication to disrupting drug trafficking networks and enhancing border security. The agency continues to combine enforcement with public education efforts, reflecting a comprehensive approach to tackling drug abuse.
