Experts predict a significant drop in Indian students heading to Canada, Australia, and the UK for spring 2025 due to tighter study visa rules.

Canada’s 35% cut in visa approvals for 2024 and an additional 10% reduction in 2025 could deny permits to around 80,500 Indian students this year alone, with 23,000 more affected next year, according to Adarsh Khandelwal of Collegify.

The decline may push students to alternative destinations like Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Vaibhav Gupta from iSchoolConnect expects 125,000 fewer Indian students in Canada, Australia, and the UK. While the U.S. and Europe may absorb some of this shortfall, they likely won’t fully compensate.

Canada’s move to link postgraduation work permits to the labor market could also impact students’ course selections, experts noted.
