Ibom Air has expanded its fleet with an extra Airbus A220-300 aircraft, financed by Fidelity and Union Banks, to cater to the increasing demand for its services.

Ibom Air has bolstered its capacity by adding another Airbus A220-300 aircraft to its fleet, which will increase its A220 fleet size to 11 upon delivery of the remaining nine units.

This move follows a firm order placed in October 2021 for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with the first delivery made in November 2023.

The airline’s decision to purchase this additional A220 from Carlyle Aviation, a prominent aircraft lessor, was driven by the rapid growth in demand for its services, outpacing the scheduled delivery of the original order.

“It is worth noting the continuing embrace of aircraft financing by Nigerian banks. This new purchase was financed by both Fidelity and Union Banks, with Fidelity as the majority partner. Ibom Air is delighted to have Nigerian financial institutions supporting its growth,” said Aniekan Essienette, GM Marketing and Communication, Ibom Air.

The delivery ceremony, held at Maastricht Airport in the Netherlands, was attended by Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, along with the airline’s management team, executive council, and state assembly members.
