Arik Air has been directed by the court to settle eight months’ worth of salary arrears owed to former employee Andreia Perdigao, who was unlawfully dismissed in 2017.

Perdigao, who had worked at the airline for three years, sought compensation for unpaid wages dating back to December 2016.

Her monthly salary was stated as $2,683.33, totaling $21,466.64 for the period in question.

In a ruling delivered by Justice M.N. Esowe, it was affirmed that there was indeed an employment contract between Perdigao and Arik Air.

The court mandated the airline to pay the full sum owed in salary arrears, along with an additional N35 million for breach of contract.

Moreover, Arik Air is required to pay interest at a rate of 15% on all amounts owed until the debt is settled in full.

This decision underscores the court’s stance on upholding employment contracts and ensuring fair compensation for unlawfully terminated employees.
