‘If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him- John F Kennedy.

The influence of travel can be seen in the Photography Art and Design Exhibition, a way to celebrate the World Art Day in Nigeria, put together by EcoBank Nigeria.

World Photography Day is an annual worldwide celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography, which is held August 19th.

Travel is an eye-opening experience that allows artists to gain a fresh outlook and draw on new cultures in their surroundings to push themselves and their art to a new level.

Sometimes, words may not vividly describe the feeling of seeing a work of art in person that you have studied so fastidiously in books, writings, and discussions.

On this day, artists from around Nigeria gathered in the city of Lagos at the Ecobank headquarters to join in the celebration of art, craft, science and history of photography.

Many visitors to Africa associate their trip to seeing the safaris, but there are more to travel and art from the perspective of an artist drawing a narrative of culture, myth, antiquity and designs. Thus, discovering authentic art in a culture is part of tourism and travel.

In a sense, the authentic experience of a culture you visit, is often displayed through the eye of an artist. You can understand cultures through local art as conveyed from a meticulous sight and deep thinking.

There are a great deal of things to be gained in traveling abroad, like new friends, new experiences, new narratives, and most of all new attitude towards life, which Pade by Ecobank brought visitors from around the world and Nigerians in the concluded art exhibition.

“The World is a book and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine

Several artists displayed unique creativity in their work of art, from photo studio set-up, to make-up artist, paintings, body art, food and drinks wasn’t excluded.

We can now say for certainty that art and travel match in how cultures, music, ways of life were exhibited by influences of people who have journeyed from different parts of the world and within the practice of the Nigerian people.
