A helicopter crash in the Bonny area of Rivers State has left eight people feared dead, according to the Rivers State Police Command.
The aircraft, operated by East Wing Aviation and carrying two crew members and six passengers, crashed into the ocean near Antan Producing Limited’s Mimbo platform on Thursday at approximately 11 am.
The helicopter, call sign 5N-BQG (S76C+), had departed from Port Harcourt’s NAF Base, heading to the Nuim Antan OML123 fields.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed that a search operation involving the police marine division and other agencies is underway to recover the aircraft and its occupants.
The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, also confirmed the tragic incident. The police extended condolences to the victims’ families.
