Personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) stationed at land borders have raised concerns over unpaid allowances for two and a half years, resulting in poor working conditions.
Deployed since the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, some have been stationed at borders for over five years, exceeding the usual term.

Speaking to BBC Hausa, one officer described their situation as “miserable” and highlighted security risks, including the kidnapping and killing of colleagues.
Customs spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada acknowledged the issue, stating the process began in 2019 and that a review was underway to resolve the situation.

Efforts to obtain comments from the NIS were unsuccessful as at the time of this report.
