The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has alerted the public to a planned three-week power interruption following a significant reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.
The decrease, which commenced on Wednesday, is attributed to ongoing maintenance work by a key Nigerian gas supplier.
In response to this reduction, ECG has announced the implementation of load shedding measures to manage electricity demand.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and ECG are collaborating on a load management program to ensure system stability and reliability during this period of reduced gas supply.
ECG has reassured consumers that it is actively working with stakeholders across the power sector to optimize available resources and mitigate the impact on customers.
Simultaneously, the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) confirmed a decrease in gas volumes available for transportation due to maintenance at a production facility in Nigeria.
This reduction affects gas supply not only to Ghana but also to customers in Togo and Benin.The West African Gas Pipeline, spanning 678 kilometers, plays a critical role in delivering natural gas from Nigeria to these West African nations.
