Nearly 100 Uzbek workers, including Ubay, a 37-year-old father of four, have been left jobless and in debt after their promised UK positions fell through.
They paid substantial fees for visas, flights, and medical certificates, only to discover that Ethero, the UK recruitment firm, had its sponsor licence revoked.
According to the Home Office, “Sponsors must meet their obligations to workers or potentially face removal from the sponsorship register.”
This left the workers stranded without jobs. Despite some refunds from the Uzbek government, the workers are still largely uncompensated for their expenses.

This situation points out the vulnerabilities of migrant workers and calls for urgent reform in the UK’s seasonal worker program to prevent future issues.
