A British tourist was attacked by a shark in the southeastern Caribbean, leading to the closure of seven beaches and a marine park in Trinidad & Tobago.
The man was hospitalized in an intensive care unit. Shark sightings were reported in the Grafton area and Buccoo Reef Marine Park. The closures will allow the Coast Guard and Department of Fisheries to investigate and neutralize the shark threat.
Shark attacks are rare, with 69 unprovoked attacks and 22 provoked bites worldwide last year, resulting in 14 fatalities.
