Nigeria plans to start local production of international passports, according to Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The move follows a delay in acquiring the document from other countries. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) introduced a fully automated passport application system in March 2024, ensuring a seamless experience for applicants, including those in the diaspora.
Tunji-Ojo recently convened a brainstorming session with the Ministry of Interior’s technical partners, top immigration officers, and officials.
The aim is to revolutionize the visa application process, particularly for short-stay visitors, to streamline procedures, reduce stress, and enhance accessibility.
