As of November 10, American travelers to Europe now face updated entry requirements, including biometric registration.
The European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) requires U.S. visitors to provide fingerprints, a digital photo, and personal information upon entry. This data is stored for three years, replacing traditional passport stamps.
The EES is part of the EU’s stricter border policy aimed at managing migration and monitoring visit durations, limiting stays to 90 days within the Schengen Area.
Additionally, starting in 2025, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will require U.S. travelers to obtain an entry permit before boarding flights to Europe.

Processed online with a €7 fee, ETIAS is expected to be quick, but final entry decisions will remain at the discretion of border officials.
