Laila March, a 25-year-old resident of Croydon, London, experienced a significant travel setback when she was denied boarding a British Airways flight from Gatwick Airport on June 7th.

The refusal came after the UK Passport Office identified a “slight mark” on her passport, categorizing it as damaged, despite her trouble-free return from Morocco the previous day.

Following the incident, TUI, the original carrier for her journey, pledged to reimburse March for the cost of her British Airways ticket.

Unsatisfied with this resolution, March pursued further compensation from TUI, highlighting that the BA flight’s expense exceeded the cost of her holiday itself.

Initially, TUI closed her case on June 16th but later assured her on June 21st that a refund for the BA ticket would be processed within two weeks.

In response to the ordeal, March has taken proactive steps by applying for a new passport to avoid any future travel disruptions, especially as she plans a trip to Jamaica in September.

TUI UK & I advised travelers to ensure their passports are free from damage, emphasizing that decisions regarding denied boarding are at the discretion of their check-in staff.
