Landmark Group in Nigeria faced destruction as federal government bulldozers demolished its beach resort, Mami Chula Beach Lifestyle, to make way for a 700-kilometer coastal highway.
The demolition which took place on Monday afternoon was necessary due to the landmark’s location on the Federal Government’s right-of-way.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, flagged off the demolition, stating that several structures would be affected and that compensation would be provided.
Umahi acknowledged some opposition to the project but emphasized that it was necessary for economic development.
The demolition was part of the ambitious project to construct a 700-kilometer coastal highway from Lagos to Calabar.
