Dutch political parties D66 and GroenLinks-PvdA have proposed a bill to relax the rules surrounding dual nationality for Dutch citizens.
The proposed legislation would allow foreign nationals to gain Dutch citizenship without having to renounce their original nationality.
Dutch nationals living abroad would not be forced to surrender their citizenship if they wish to take on a second nationality. The draft legislation aims to remove the stigma attached to dual nationality and is expected to be debated in parliament after the national election on November 22.

The Netherlands currently has some of the strictest rules on dual nationality in Europe, with only a few exceptions.
