After months of waiting, Sulton Hamzat, a Lagos resident, has finally received his refund from Dana Air.
Hamzat’s ordeal began in April when he booked a round-trip flight from Lagos to Abuja, scheduled for April 30.
Just days before his departure, on April 25, Dana Air canceled the flight due to a suspension imposed by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The airline assured him of a refund totaling N131,544 but failed to deliver it promptly.
Following Dana Air’s instructions, Hamzat provided the required booking reference code, a valid ID, and his account details by June 3. Despite complying with these requests, Hamzat spent the next four months chasing his refund, only to receive repeated acknowledgments and vague promises with no clear timeline.
The delay was especially stressful in Nigeria’s current economic climate, where N131,544 represents a significant amount of money.
Finally, after months of persistence, Hamzat received an unexpected message from Dana Air on a Friday afternoon.
The airline issued an apology for the delay, and later that day, at exactly 5:33 pm, Hamzat saw a credit alert in his account for the full amount. Relieved and overjoyed, Hamzat expressed his gratitude, thankful that the ordeal had come to an end.
