The Island nation of Jamaica has finally opened its Consulate in Nigeria’s economic-nerve center Lagos.
This marks a strategic move to strengthen diplomatic presence in West Africa and improve services for Jamaicans living in the region.
A statement from the Jamaican Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says that Mrs. Aima Lijadu leads the Consulate.
The Jamaican Consulate is expected to expand country’s footprint in Nigeria’s commercial, financial, innovation and technology hub, while strengthening links with the Jamaican Diaspora based in Lagos.
“The Consulate, with the Support of the Jamaican High Commission in Abuja, will process applications for Jamaican passports and Jamaican citizenship as well as facilitate visa applications for foreign nationals,” the ministry said.
“Services are available to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between the hours of 10:00 a.m and 3:00 p.m.”
The consulate will operate under the guidance of the Jamaican High Commission in Abuja and will provide services including processing applications for Jamaican passports and citizenship, as well as facilitating visa applications for foreign nationals.
