Nigeria’s fast-rising carrier ValueJet has launched direct flights between Lagos and Accra, Ghana.
This is the latest in a series of bold regional moves that are rapidly reshaping air connectivity across West Africa.
A Regional Expansion in Full Swing
ValueJet has concluded plans to launch several routes from its Lagos hub to Cotonou in Benin Republic, Accra in Ghana, and Malabo in Equatorial Guinea, less than three years after commencing scheduled flight operations.
The Accra launch follows the airline’s successful entry into regional aviation with its Lagos–Banjul route. The Lagos–Banjul service has been performing strongly since its May 2025 launch, opening up the market and boosting travel for tourists, adventurers, and business travellers.
The Vision Behind the Growth
ValueJet Managing Director Capt. Omololu Dapo Majekodunmi has been clear about the airline’s ambitions:
“Our goal is to make air connectivity on the West Coast and indeed Africa seamless, comfortable, affordable and a refreshing experience. ValueJet is committed to easing the air transportation burden of Africans, and this will continue to drive our route expansion as well as fleet modernisation.”
The airline has also announced domestic additions including flights from the new Gateway International Airport in Ogun State signalling a dual strategy of domestic consolidation and regional expansion.
What It Means for West Africa
The Lagos–Accra corridor is one of West Africa’s most commercially significant routes, connecting Nigeria and Ghana the region’s two largest economies.
ValueJet’s entry injects much-needed competition, with the potential to push fares lower and frequency higher for both business and leisure travellers on one of the sub-region’s busiest city pairs.
