The United Kingdom processed 225,000 visa applications from Nigerians between June 2023 and June 2024, generating over N68 billion, according to Marc Owen, Director of Visa Services at UK Visas and Immigration. He disclosed this at the launch of Africa’s largest UK visa application centre in Lagos on November 28, 2024.
Owen highlighted the UK’s commitment to accessible and efficient visa services, noting significant demand from Nigerian nationals.
Analysis of visa fees, averaging $150 per application, reveals the UK earned over $34 million during the period, equivalent to more than N40 billion at an exchange rate of N1,200.

Despite the revenue, data shows rising visa rejections for Nigerians, with denial rates increasing from 1 in 31 in 2022 to 1 in 8 in 2023. Study visa approvals also dropped by 63% year-on-year.
