Nigeria’s Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has put on hold the 800% hike in navigation service charges for airlines, acknowledging the economic strain this would impose.
This suspension follows the intervention of Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The planned increases would have significantly impacted airline operations, with en-route air navigation charges set to rise from N2,000 to N18,000, and terminal navigation fees from N6,000 to N54,000 per flight.
Additionally, costs for extending service hours would have soared from N50,000 to N450,000. These proposed changes, the first since 2008, came as airline ticket prices have already increased from N150,000 to N200,000 for a one-way economy ticket.
