International tourism reached a new milestone in 2025, with global arrivals surpassing 1.5 billion for the first time.

Latest figures from UN Tourism show 1.52 billion international travelers, up 4 percent from 2024, confirming that travel growth is no longer just a post-pandemic rebound.

Tourism also reinforced its role as a major economic driver.

Tourism exports and passenger transport generated about 2.2 trillion dollars, while direct visitor spending rose to 1.6 trillion euros, accounting for nearly 10 percent of global GDP and one in ten jobs worldwide.

.Europe remained the world’s top destination, welcoming 793 million visitors, led by France and Spain, whose combined totals approach 200 million tourists a year.

The continent’s mix of culture, heritage, food, and city tourism continues to draw travelers year-round.

Growth momentum, however, is shifting. Asia-Pacific recorded 331 million arrivals, boosted by reopened markets like Japan and Southeast Asia.

Africa saw one of the fastest rises, up 8 percent to 81 million visitors, with Morocco emerging as a standout.

The Middle East reached 100 million arrivals, driven by heavy investment in tourism.

The Americas grew modestly, up 1 percent, held back by higher costs and currency pressures.

Looking ahead, UN Tourism expects global travel to grow another 3 to 4 percent in 2026, supported by major events like the Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup, further reshaping the global tourism map.
